Create a display font that is inspired by the city of Shanghai.
Then, create an 18x24 poster that showcases the type with no images.
RESEARCH
I used aspects from traditional Chinese writing and architecture, as well as my own handwriting and experiences I have from visiting the city myself. With the industrialized and verticality feel from the modernized parts of the city, I made both the basis of my type design.
Shanghai Sea is a display font that combines a traditional, script aesthetic and ornamental style with a modern tone that reflects the city of Shanghai.
The name of the font comes from Shanghai itself, translating to "On the Sea".
